The beginning of the school year is exciting, but who are we kidding? It can bring us mommas a ton of stress as well! Here are some tried and true tips that I utilize to keep me sane for my 1st, 6th, and 8th grade children!

Do you have a late sleeper or serial snoozer? Place the alarm clock at enough of a distance that they need to get up in order to turn it off.
Need to make sure homework gets done? Set screen time to begin after homework is complete. Most electronic devices these days have amazing parental controls.

Have a kid that gets bored easy while reading? Incorporate reading while eating. This is a great way to work in small, non-intimidating doses of reading, especially for new readers.
Establish contact with teachers early and maintain some form of communication. Most teachers are happy to chat through email for simple issues, and if you are having any more complicated issues, don’t be afraid to request a phone call!
It is hard to control exactly what kids eat at school, especially as they get older, so take charge of what you can! Make sure there is a nutritious meal in the evening for dinner (to make up for whatever empty calories they may have consumed during the school day) and something healthy to easily pick up for breakfast on the way out.

Choose and lay out the entire outfit for the next day on the night before. Include socks and shoes! If you have older children, have them lay out their own outfit. This next step is essential…make sure to check if they did it! If you have a child who constantly has an issue with the outfit in the morning, make sure to go over it with them when you pick it out at night and make the changes at that time so their needs are addressed.
I have a friend who used to bring all 3 of her kids outfits to the living room, so once they were out of there bedroom in the morning they would stay out and there was no dilly dallying.
